12 DEC 2012

I'm going to tinker with the workout a bit tomorrow. I'll still wait a bit since I am getting results from the Strength workout and I don't want to just jump around workouts/need more strength and mass. That said I'm just so bored, it's driving me nuts.

Squat:
135# 1 x 5
165# 1 x 3
185# 2 x 5
185# 1 x 7

Press:
45# 1 x 10
105# 3 x 5

Power Clean:
140# 5 x 3

Alright, Power Cleans felt strong, I felt weak in the press and I think my form was sloppy so I'll keep the weight the same going into next week. I wonder if I have to take Saturday and Sunday off. Is one day of Recovery enough, so On Off On Off etc...? Looking at you for the answer MT. I'll stay at 185 for the squat and do it for 9 reps on Friday. Form felt better and more confident in the lift but I think that's just because I knew I could do it(Placebo effect).

Yeah it's tough to stay motivated on such a simple program. Especially since the volume and recovery don't really become a factor until things get really heavy. Do you NEED Saturday and Sunday? Rippetoe would say yes, but you could probably do an every other day thing if you're feeling good. Especially if you're not planning to add weight every single session like the program originally calls for.

If you start to stall out and are having trouble adding weight to the bar then add the extra rest day back in.

You could also take Saturday and do some strongman type stuff if you have access to that kind of thing. Sled drags / pushes, tire flips, battling ropes, farmers walks, etc. All things that will help train weak links and keep your mind engaged, but doesn't add a lot of extra volume and shouldn't put too much stress on your progress in the other lifts. So it would look like:
MON: SS
TUES: Rest
WED: SS
THUR: Rest
FRI: SS
SAT: 2 strongman exercises
SUN: Rest
